Urban Stormwater Fees: How to Pay for What We Need

On November 15, 2016, the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario released a report, Urban Stormwater Fees: How to Pay for What We Need.

Stormwater management aims to control the quantity and quality of water from rain and snowmelt that runs off overland and through storm sewers, to reduce flooding, erosion and pollution. However, most Ontario municipalities do not have adequate funding models in place to properly manage stormwater.

This report outlines some current challenges in stormwater management, examines a key response to address these challenges: stormwater fees, and highlights success stories from within Ontario and elsewhere of implementing stormwater fees.
